Mine didn't.
I grew up in the Siberian taiga and eventually found my way to a small town north of Toronto, where Teya and I built a life rooted in faith, family, and the kind of quiet that leaves room to think. Our two pomeranians, Ciri and Yuppie, make sure it's never too quiet.
I've always been drawn to building things and understanding how they work. As a kid, that curiosity showed up through games. Later, it expanded into businesses, technology, product development, and the systems that connect people, ideas, and outcomes. Long before I knew what product management was, I was already obsessed with breaking complex problems into smaller pieces and figuring out how to make them better.
Outside of work, you'll usually find me hiking, paddling through backcountry lakes, working on a new project, or turning an ambitious goal into a repeatable system. I enjoy the process as much as the outcome - finding leverage, learning quickly, and improving through iteration.
At 24, a stage-three cancer diagnosis brought every plan I had to a stop. The years that followed were filled with treatments, surgeries, uncertainty, and a recovery with no predictable timeline. There was no roadmap to follow.
What emerged from that experience wasn't fearlessness. It was perspective.
I learned that progress is rarely linear, that resilience is built through consistency rather than intensity, and that some of the most meaningful things in life are worth pursuing even when success isn't guaranteed. Those lessons continue to shape how I approach products, teams, and life itself.
Today, whether I'm building software, launching a new venture, or exploring an idea that doesn't yet exist, I'm motivated by the same question:
